ThirdLove is celebrating Mother’s Day with the #ThisIsHer campaign. It’s our way of letting Mom (and all the Mom-figures) know that we see her, we love her, and we even appreciate some of that “tough love” she’s given us along the way. We have her to thank for so much of who we are today. Because we all got it from our mamas.
To kick off our #ThisIsHer campaign, we’re spotlighting a few moms from our very own ThirdLove team.
Mom’s name: Svetlana
What’s the most amazing thing about your mom?
Her love. It’s unconditional. She cares more for others than she does herself. Her selflessness is unreal.
What’s one of the biggest challenges she’s overcome?
Moving to America with my father and her 1-year-old (me) without understanding a word of English. She landed two jobs—one as a caretaker for the elderly and the other as a maid at a hotel in Cow Hollow. She then started to teach herself English while also teaching me Russian and English.
What part of her to you hope to embody?
Her strength. Even through the toughest times, she never gave up.
Mom’s name: Debra
What’s the most amazing things about your mom?
My mom makes people feel seen and heard. She is a great listener—so empathetic and nonjudgmental—and she remembers even the smallest details of stories people share with her.
What’s one of the biggest challenges she’s overcome?
My mom raised me as a single parent and finished her degree by bringing her baby (me) to class. She has always found ways to continuously educate, enrich, and uplift me—even with limited resources and support.
What part of her do you hope to embody?
Her strength, her laughter, and her optimism.
Mom’s name: Heather
What’s the most amazing thing about your mom?
My mom has overcome so many obstacles in her life. Growing up, we had many difficulties, but she always had a smile on her face and really ingrained in me that as long as we have each other, things will be okay.
What’s one of the biggest challenges she’s overcome?
My mom immigrated to Chicago from Seoul, South Korea, not knowing any English. She had to learn the language while supporting her mom and brother.
What part of her do you hope to embody?
I hope to embody her curious mind. Growing up and coming from a different country, she has such a deep and genuine curiosity about the American culture and always wants to learn more about it.
Join the #ThisIsHer movement by posting your favorite photo of your mom on Facebook or Instagram along with 1-2 sentences about why she’s so amazing. Be sure to use the hashtag #ThisIsHer and follow @ThirdLove. We’ll be reposting our favorites throughout the week as we celebrate moms everywhere.
